Getting Away for the Girls Weekend!

On Friday, I left the Ladies behind and headed out in a "normal" car, which in all honesty felt very low to the ground in comparison to the height I must admit I am becoming accustomed to and enjoying in the mini-van.

I think that as a parent there has to be a bit of decompression time. And I will admit that I felt a little guilty, for not really feeling guilty as I drove down towards NYC to pick up one of my very best friends at Penn Station then through the Lincoln Tunnel on our way to the beach for our annual Girls weekend.

There is something to be said for spending a weekend in the company of women you met when you were 18 years old, and have continued to rely on, depend on, seek advice from, complain to and confide in. It helps that we are all moms with multiple kids, trying to navigate the everyday. Some of us work, some of us stay home, but it really is kind of freeing to have no walls up to be able to be yourself, not just the "Ladies mom" or my husbands wife, but a bit of that college aged girl who had a few hours to sit around a talk about everything and anything.

I will admit to mostly discussing our families and a lot of our conversations did revolve around parenting and motherhood

50% was about how cute are kids are and how much they drive us crazy
20% was about how we must be failing miserably at being moms
5% was about how we are amazing moms
10% how our husbands were faring at home
10% Celebrity gossip and all things US, Star, People related
5% Snack food discussions

All in all, it was a great weekend and as happy as I was to see the faces of not only the Ladies, but my husband who handled it all in his own way, I am already looking forward to next year and am grateful for not only the female friendships I have in my life, but for those few stolen days to nurture them and eat pepperoni bread and peanut butter M&Ms.

Countdown . . .

I am leaving for my annual girls weekend get-away in LBI tomorrow. I am so looking forward to it.

After waking up this morning at 5 am with the Little Lady, who finally went back to sleep around quarter to 6, then having the Lady arrive in our room at 7:30, naked, declaring that she peed on the floor in her room, I am ready for a break.

I have decided that this year my husband is on his own. I will pack one bag for the Ladies for an outdoor beach/pool adventure but that is it. He can handle, diapers, feedings, park outings and naptime. I know he will probably get a little help from his parents or mine, but I am really going to try to savor the fact that not only is the time I am spending away my own, but that I might have a moment to actually turn my brain off and stop thinking about schedules, cleaning, and what is for dinner and concentrate on the important things like, which magazine will I read first and how much more sunscreen should I reapply.

The fact that I am spending this weekend with some of my favorite people in the world, just makes it all the better. We will be missing one person this year and hope that she and her family (including her 2-month old little guy and her mom) are doing well.

This is also the first year in quite a few years that nobody is knocked-up (at least I don't think so--perhaps an announcement is forthcoming--but not from me!) so I will be boozing it up a little bit. You know, two Zimas or a wine cooler then sleeping in past 7:30. Can. Not. Wait.

I will say that I am a little giddy for the moment I get into the car, sans carseats, the radio loud and drive away. It isn't that I won't miss the Ladies or won't want to come back (at least not for a day or so) it is just that the feeling of being alone is so freeing.

So the countdown begins. . . 23 hours 15 minutes to go.

Weekend Plans

My mom came over yesterday and after finally figuring out how to use the sewing machine we started on the woodland fairy tutu. I will post a photo in a few days because my mom took it to hand sew some ribbon detail. I think it looks super cute even though the Lady might not wear it for more then thirty seconds. We will see.

We have a busy weekend planned. The Lady and I are on our way up to New London for a weekend with my favorite girls and their assorted brood. We are waiting to hear about the sex of the baby in Bunny's Mom's belly. Think pink everyone!

I am then leaving the Lady with the Wild Man and coming back down for a wedding on Saturday night. I scoured my closet for something to wear that not only fit but was fall wedding appropriate and found nothing. However, a few pairs of old pants now fit, which is good because I can now wear more then just sweatpants and my stretch jeans. I didn't want to go out and buy something new for the wedding because I am trying to be the money saving mom and because in all actuality I will probably not wear the dress again this year. It soon became apparent that I needed something so I headed out to the mall. I hit Ann Taylor Loft and found a dress that ended up being $12.65. It isn't super fancy but I am going to dress it up with some pearls and a nice shoe.
